CMVT June 08
The road run on the 20th April for East Cornwall was well supported, eight vehicles and a motorcycle escort, enjoyed a little bit of
the moorland. Ron Cave with his Series 1 Land Rover and George in the 2A left Fraddon at 9.15am, met up at the DCLI Bodmin
with Ian and the Land Rover 109 accompanied by his daughter, also Sharron and Tim. John & Diane in their 1971 Land Rover
Ambulance complete with stretchered patients in the back. A trip up the A38 through all the road works and on to Golitha Falls
where we met up with Vyvyan & Barbra with there lightweight LR, Harry & friends in the 1943 Willys Jeep, Malcolm with his
1944 Ford Jeep and while waiting for Bill we took a very pleasant stroll down the river. Following the river Fowey up to Bolventor
we were joined by Tim on his 1939 Norton 16H where we made our way around Colliford Lake and followed moorland roads
across to The Old Inn at St Breward the highest Inn in Cornwall dating back to the 11 century when it provided shelter for the
monks who built the neighbouring church. An excellent meal was had before setting off for Davidstow where Steve & Sheila made
us welcome. The West Cornwall Road run around Marazion, Pendeen and Porthcurno had to be called off due to lack of support.
The Trebah Military day on the 7th June organised and run by Adrian was a great success with 13 vehicles taking part, transporting
guests down to the beach for the service of wreath laying at the memorial to the US 29 Infantry Division soldiers who gave their
lives 64 years ago. A Sea King Helicopter from 771 Squadron of the Royal Naval Search and Rescue also laid a wreath on the sea
after a rescue demonstration with a RNLI inshore boat. The Caledonian Band provided the support and entertainment as usual and
with a warm and sunny day the event was enjoyed by all.
Once again the CMVT supported the Davidstow Airfield and Cornwall at War Museum on Saturday the 14th June for its Official
Opening. Many CMVT members worked for days supporting the team, erecting marques and tents, providing food for the guests
and public, erecting signs and marking out the parking areas. A large number of Military Vehicles arrived for the Saturday providing
a good display.

More than 1,000 people attended the day, the museum being officially opened by Wing Commander Lawson, Station Commander
RAF St. Mawgan. Contingents of the Royal Navy, Army and the Royal Air Force were on parade with the Sea Cadets, Army
Cadet Force and the Air Training Corps. To quote Steve “a formal parade of all three services at RAF Davidstow Moor”. Ten
branches of the Royal British Legion and 14 other ex-service organisations were present with more than 30 standards on parade.
Music was provided by the Air Training Corps, St Austell Corps of Pipes and Drums and with excellent public displays throughout
the day.
