The Royal British Legion is well supported by our members right across the county with collections almost in every town. The Poppy Appeal launch on 27th
October at Flambards organized by Gwen was particularly well attended with 4 jeeps, 2 Landrovers and a green goddess on show. Despite the weather it
was a very good day. On the 8th November the Penzance Festival of Poppies saw 10 vehicles in support parading through Marazion and the Penzance sea
front. Graham bugled the Last Post while the wharf side was bombed with poppies from an aircraft.
The Cornwall Area AGM was held on the 19th November. Bill Bock thanked all the committee members for their support during the last year. Bill with a
large grin said he'd enjoyed the hard work as area secretary and was prepared to stand again for another term. Members of the committee standing down
were Gwen as events coordinator, Helen – blue sheet editor, Diane club treasure and Harry as safety officer. Ian Dunn was elected as our new Health &
Safety Officer, Harry retains the role of vehicle verification officer. John Hunt was elected as club treasure and the hard working Sharron elected to the
committee as the events coordinator. Tim takes on the role of our blue sheet editor as well as being the Quartermaster, Bill thanked Tim for his continuing
work as Quartermaster doing a Stirling, mainly unseen job to collate all club assets and producing the updated equipment list. The committee was completed
with the election of Scott Kipling to the team. Paula and George remain in their present jobs.
Our Christmas Dinner & Dance held at the Sandy Lodge Hotel, Newquay on the 6th December was very well attended. The meal excellent as usual, the
evening included a Christmas Hamper raffle won by Area Sec. Bill who promptly donated it to members of the Armed Services who would not be home for
Christmas. Spot prizes were won by members for their stylish dancing, while Mrs Kath Bock was presented with a bouquet of flowers. George Brinkly won
the best shed trophy and certificates of thanks were presented to resigning committee members Diane Roberts and Helen Martin. Many thanks to Roger for
organizing an excellent event once again.
The Mince Pie Road Run 2009 organized by Ian was held on Saturday 3rd January, vehicles from the south of the county traveling via Falmouth, Truro,
Tresillian and Ladock to meet up for lunch at the Blue Anchor Fraddon, with other vehicles starting north of Liskeard, proceeding down to Bodmin, on to
Wadebridge and then to Fraddon, meeting other vehicles on route. That was the idea anyway, but George's Landrover failing to start at Liskeard, the first
failure for the lightweight!, a failing capacitor and burnt points the culprit delayed the start, however vehicles starting at Bodmin and Wadebridge were still able
to follow Ian's timetable. An good turnout with 14 military vehicles on display and 30 members enjoying a social event with an excellent lunch.

Ian has started planning for two events this year, the Bodmin & Wenford Railways “Steam At War event on the 2nd 3rd 4th May bank holiday, all the usual
steam trains, military vehicles, battles and dance band. All MVT members and vehicles welcome, entry forms from Geraldine Turner. Also Cornwall's
spectacular MVT event held in the grounds of Mount Edgcumbe Country park with its coastal scenery and countryside on the 29th 30th 31st August bank
holiday will be to the usual high standard with camping in superb settings. The scenic forest and coastal road runs, catering and entertainment will make this an
event not to miss. Details and entry forms from Area Secretary Bill Bock or from Ian Dunn.
