Just a brief report on proceedings at The Old Station.
A very pleasant party for John T's 70th on Friday night with ENSA entertainment in the "motorcycle room".
Also for Clive and Ruth Runnall's 40th wedding anniversary, though they were a little late turning up. The Saturday event was 1000 until 1700 ish and there was a very good turn out of vehicles and personnel. The weather too was very pleasant. Bill, Kay and Paula kept a NAAFI running all weekend. The only snag appeared to be the lack of public. I don't know what the final numbers were. Of course the Tall Ships event was on in Falmouth too. At 1330 there seemed to be a problem in J & G's garden, it appeared that the tunnel was being held by alien forces and a well co-ordinated manoeuvre, by the allies, to remove them was required and so the battle for JTs garden commenced. With bangs reflecting off the tunnel and Mark's new mortar misbehaving it was quite an exciting little battle. I think the Brits sneaking up behind the garage, close to the enemy position and driving out from there was the key top the whole battle. The US and Russian forces could advance! In the evening there was a nice run out to Smokey Joe's under a blue sky. Could this really be England, after the weather we have had up until then? Smokey Joe's was excellent and
no-one batted an eyelid when these strangely dressed people (us) turned up.
Sunday was also 1000 to 1700. The same garden problem arose, but this time at 1400. Somehow, on this occasion the German and Russian forces were allied and holding the tunnel like ticks on a dog! There was less
malfunctioning of allied and axis artillery and the enemy sustained heavy fire, but again it was the Brits who managed to get up close and turn the tide. The weather again good, until about 1715 which was
great for the event, but not so good to ride home in! However after warming up one of the NAAFI Manager's pies, we began to dry out and spirits were raised.
The event was to raise money for Soldiers at Selly Oak Hospital.
